RELIVING ADOLESCENCE: IDLE WILD PARK

I've been TERRIBLE with keeping up with this blog the last few weeks!! Needless to say, our lives have become quite busy! With Matthew's school, Declan's schedule, our mini-marathon training, traveling, birthdays and my sister's upcoming wedding, ordinary life - with all its perks of relaxation and boredome - has completely escaped us!



Anyways, though its "unwise" to retrace old events, seeing as though blogs are meant to reflect present-day thoughts, events and stories, I want to retrace our steps over Labor Day weekend.

We headed to Pittsburgh to spend some much-needed quality time with the family. Mimi was finally introduced to Declan! We finally got over to Oakmont for some swimming! Lastly, we took Matthew and Declan on their first trip to Idle Wild Park.

For a bit of history, this park is where my parents used to take us when we were kids. Its a kiddy version of an amusement park, and although the rides are meant for kids under the age of 7, its still a blast for those of us too big to ride! It was the first time Matthew has graced amusement rides ... it was a sight to see. In fact, at one point in time I was wiping tears from my eyes. I just couldn't believe that I was now the parent watching and cheering my child on as he bravely stepped into a world unknown to him. His first ride was the ferris wheel with daddy, and according to Matt, Matthew was holding on for dear life. Frankly, I don't blame the kid ... I'm terrified of ferris wheels and I'm 28 years old! After that though, every other ride was not only a piece of cake, but a complete blast for him! I have some pictures that I'll post later today.

Declan, though too small for the park, enjoyed his relaxing day in the fresh air. Bup Bup strolled around with him most of the day, so it was a nice time of bonding for the two of them.

All in all, it was a great time! I can't wait to take them back again next year!
