Matthew has given us a heck of a time with the potty! We've been attempting to train him since last summer and as of last month, he hadn't given us much to hope for. Alas! We shall persevere!
Just this week, Matthew has managed to go "pee-pee" in the potty twice AND "poopy" TWICE! Yes folks ... you heard it here! Yet, with all this excitement, can you believe something even more amazing has happened?
To be truthful, Matthew's accomplishments thus far have resulted due to a bit of luck. Though we don't deny him the credit for his amazing job on the potty, we pretty much had to "force" him to sit down and try. He fought and fought -- trying desperately NOT to have to sit -- but we enticed him enough to go (chocolate milk, cookies, candy, tv, movies, you name it, we gave it)! We kept having to ask him if he had to go ... he never actually admitting to it. We simply went off of the "signs" and escorted him to the potty.
Well, this morning (while I was at the gym), Matt said he woke up to Matthew screaming. He ran over to his room and Matthew was nowhere to be found! Scary! Anyways, Matt ended up finding Matthew in the bathroom. He was jumping up and down next to the toilet saying "I have to pee! I have to pee!" Of course, Matt didn't make it there in time. Matthew was unable to hold it and ended up going in his diaper. HOWEVER ... this morning marked another major milestone in the battle of the potty. For the FIRST time ever, Matthew alerted us to his readiness for the potty. Weird as it sounds, I'm more excited now than I was when he went in the potty! The simple fact that he's actually telling us he has to go is a huge step for him!!
I'm so proud of my little guy!! I'm all smiles today :)
** Quick Update on Declan: He's doing much, much better. Thanks to all of you who have been checking in periodically! He still has a bit of a cough and cold, but has regained much of his appetite and is sleeping through the night soundly. Granted, this past month has been anything but fun; however, now that he's getting back to normal we realize just how lucky we are to have such a pleasant, happy, sweet baby! He's another light in our life and makes everyday worthwhile!!
