Although this blog was established to keep everyone updated on Matthew and Declan, today I'll update you on Matt and I :)
For the most part, Matt and I are doing REALLY WELL! I've gotten back into running (managing a 5 mile run yesterday) and Matt has picked up with his basketball league. We have resumed our family dinners where we actuallly sit down and have a decent conversation. We've even managed a few family activities in the midst of our crazy weeks and traveling weekends. We are working soo well as a team right now - and thank God for that because we couldn't run this house without one another.
Parenting is unbelievably rewarding, but nonetheless tough. As you can imagine, Matt and I are running off of fumes most often. We still haven't quite mastered our nightly schedule with the boys, so at times we are nostalgic for our "old nights" -- a sleeping child by 8:00p.m. and some alone time to relax with one another. Yet, we can't complain. Last night, amazingly, we met eachother on the couch at 9p.m. and were actually able to hang out for about 30 minutes without much interruption! Declan, of course, was with us, but he sat happy and content until he was ready to eat around 9:30pm. We know it will get easier and easier as time goes on, so that thought keeps us optimistic.
We head out of town for our cousin's wedding this weekend -- we are very excited for a night among adults! The only bummer is that we'll be leaving Matthew behind. Traveling 4.5 hours to Detroit and back within 24 hours is a lot for him and we figured he'd have WAY more fun hanging out with his cousin, his aunt and his grandparents. So, we're taking Declan with us and giving Matthew a vacation from us. I'm really sad about it, but I know in my heart its best for him. I just have to keep telling myself that a little more than 24 hours away from us may just do him some good (and give him a nice break from the everyday rules).
